U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championships Return to U.S. Open Fortnight

The U.S. Intercollegiate Squash Doubles Championships join the Delaware Investments U.S. Open fortnight for the sixth year at Racquet Club of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Cricket Club and Germantown Cricket Club, October 7-9.

There is no entry fee, and all participants receive free General Admission tickets to the U.S. Open, October 8-9.

The thirty-seventh edition of the tournament, the world’s only annual collegiate doubles event, was first played in 1942. The tournament will be again presented by the U.S. Jesters Club.

Philadelphia’s Drexel University will once again play host to the prestigious 2016 Delaware Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships—the second tournament on the 2016/17 PSA Road To Dubai—October 6-15, when 112 of the world’s best squash players will descend on the city for the PSA World Series tournament.

For the fourth consecutive year the U.S. Open will offer equal prize money for men and women, with $150,000 on offer in each draw, and will be headlined by world No. 1s Mohamed Elshorbagy—the 2014 winner—and Nour El Sherbini, the 20-year-old Egyptian World Champion.

The United States Squash Hall of Fame proudly announces the class of 2016: Paul D. Assaiante, Norman B. Bramall and Jane Austin Stauffer. The first two are arguably the greatest squash coaches ever of men and women and Stauffer was one of the finest doubles players in history. The ceremony will be at noon on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Drexel during the Delaware Investments United States Open. Register for the induction ceremony here.

The U.S. Open Squash Championships celebrates its sixth year of support from Macquarie Group’s Delaware Investments as title sponsor.

The 2016 Delaware Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships will see the Philadelphia community come together for a celebration of squash at Drexel University. Delaware Investments has been a cornerstone of the partnership with Drexel and US Squash, one of the longest commitments the tournament has had in its storied 62-year history.

Women in Sports Day

Maria Toorpakai will be awarded the President’s Cup at Women in Sports Day at the 2016 Delaware Investments United States Open. The third-annual Women in Sports Day will be on Wednesday, October 12 at Drexel’s Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The President’s Cup is the highest individual award at US Squash. Inaugurated in 1966, the award is given to men and women who have made substantial contributions of the game of squash. Toorpakai is the forty-fifth recipient of the President’s Cup and the second, after Hashim Khan in 1978, to hail from Pakistan.
